Why This Work Matters: A Story from Our Health & Wellness Tour

Updated: 22 hours ago

Since launching the Health & Wellness Tour, our goal has been simple: bring real resources directly into our community and make sure families have access to the care they deserve.

Recently, a community member shared a powerful story about how attending one of our events made a life-changing difference.

While volunteering at a health fair, she decided to take advantage of a free wellness blood screening offered on-site. Even though she already had a doctor’s visit scheduled, she chose to participate—and that decision led to something important.

When her results came back, they showed elevated inflammatory levels. That moment pushed her to take action.

She followed up with her doctor, advocated for herself, and continued through the proper steps—including her annual mammogram. That process led to further testing, where something abnormal was found.

Because she acted early, she was able to begin her journey toward treatment.

Today, she is sharing her testimony—not just for herself, but to help others.

“We are all going through something, and I share my testimony for power. I tell my story to help others and let my light shine.”

Her story is exactly why this work matters.

Access to preventive care should not depend on your ZIP code. Too many families miss critical warning signs simply because they don’t have access to screenings, information, or resources.

Since November 2024, we’ve provided over 700 free health screenings across Prince George’s County—connecting residents with the tools they need to take control of their health.

This isn’t about politics.

This is about people.

It’s about making sure families have access, information, and support—before small concerns become bigger problems.

And it’s why I’m committed to continuing this work.
