When seeking a role to aid and assist my neighbors, I prioritize three fundamental principles: purpose, respect, and Collaboration
As a proud resident and current Commissioner of District Heights, I am committed to serving my community with integrity and dedication. Born and raised in Prince George’s County, a graduate of Prince George’s County Schools, and now an award-winning photographer, children’s book author, and Executive Director of MakeSmartCool—a nonprofit dedicated to youth literacy—I have always sought purpose in being the change I wish to see and empowering others to do the same.
In my tenure as Commissioner, I have spearheaded initiatives that directly impact the lives of our residents:
• Workforce Development: I established District Heights as the first municipality with an in-house workforce development program, helping residents access job opportunities and essential training within their community.
• Modernizing Services: I facilitated the transition of our Recreation Department from outdated paper processes to efficient digital platforms, improving accessibility for residents.
• Grant Acquisition: Through my leadership with the National League of Cities’ Small Cities Council, I secured critical grants that benefit our city and its residents.
• Community Support: As Constituent Service Manager for Senator Nick Charles, I worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic, distributing thousands of masks and meals to families in need.
• Student Safety: I led the development of the first volunteer-led Safe Passage Pilot program in partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools & County Council ensuring the safety of students on their way home from school.
Collaboration within our community allows us to achieve great things. While this role as State Delegate is considered part-time, it demands full-time dedication. By genuinely supporting our residents, we can witness real and lasting change.
Respect is a cornerstone of leadership. It is a mutual exchange, and differing opinions are part of the process. True leadership is demonstrated by standing up for the community, not merely aligning with colleagues in the room.
My family’s legacy in Maryland runs deep. A visit to the State House in Annapolis reveals the Tilghman Sword, a symbol of service to Maryland since colonial times. This history inspires me to continue this tradition of commitment to our state.
My campaign is built on the qualities of a well-crafted sword: strong values,, the flexibility of open-mindedness to innovation, resilience in the face of challenges, a steadfast dedication to serving the people of Maryland, and most importantly, a willingness to listen and use my skills and talents on behalf of those who need it most.
I understand the challenges we are facing and I am ready to work on solutions for our state!
I am Anthony Tilghman, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Maryland State Delegate District 25.
